I am here to tell you all about my new favorite thing in all the world: a personal styling service called Stitch Fix. To my male readers: you can leave now. This won’t interest you. Go brush up on the results to my cats’ pet satisfaction surveys, if you like. There will be a quiz later.

Ok, ladies. Seriously. I’m in love with this service. And I’m not getting paid to say this. (The only time I’ve ever accepted payment to advertise on this blog was the time I agreed to place a sex toy ad, because I needed a major car repair at the time, and that sex toy banner is soooo discreetly hidden within this blog that I will be seriously impressed if any of you can find it. Consider that a challenge).

Anyway: Stitch Fix. You go to their web site and fill out a style profile complete with your measurements and style preferences. Then, as often as once a month, your “personal stylist” picks out five clothing items/accessories they think you will like and mail them to your door. It’s like Christmas and your birthday and All Hallow’s Eve all rolled up into one little box of joy and wonderment.

You can get “fixes” whenever you want. You can sign up to get them monthly or you can just request one whenever you want one, no strings attached.

Once you get your box, you have three days to decide what items you want to keep. You pay for the items you want, and seal the rest up in their pre-prepared, pre-paid baggie and drop it into a mailbox within three business days. Easy peasy pumpkin cheesy.

So far I have gotten three boxes and kept three items.

The first thing I kept was this maxi skirt, which as you may recall, once almost got me thrown out of a men’s prison.

I knew Stitch Fix was working when the first time I wore this skirt, the guy in the office next to mine said, “Wow! That skirt is so different than what you usually wear. You actually look like a real clinician.”

“And what the hell do I usually look like?” I asked, before immediately adding, “Never mind. Please don’t answer that question.”

The other two things I’ve kept are this sweater and this necklace:

When you check out online you review each item. So you can write things like “THIS IS THE MOST AMAZING THING I’VE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE” (like I wrote for the necklace pictured above) or “PLEASE NEVER SEND ANYTHING LIKE THIS AGAIN LEST I HAVE TO GOUGE MY OWN EYES OUT WITH A FISHING HOOK” like I wrote for the following items:

The idea is, with your reviews, your boxes should get better and better over time as they get to know you better.

It’s so fun- every month is a surprise and they are often things that you wouldn’t think to try on at a store.

When you fill out your profile, you also state your preferred price range. (Mine is set to “the cheaper the better”). The clothing still costs more than I would normally pay for clothes, but the clothes are also higher quality than I normally buy and will therefore last longer, so I figure it’s a good investment and a fun way to gradually increase the quality of my wardrobe over time.

Each box is $20, but that money goes toward any items you end up keeping. (Worst case scenario, you hate everything and are out twenty bucks).

I highly encourage you to give it a try if you like clothes, fun, and/or surprises. Or if you just have a cat who likes to crawl inside a new box each month. And please use my referral link, as that will give me $25 toward my next fix and will result in you RECEIVING MY UNDYING LOVE UNTIL THE END OF TIME. Also, please send me pics of all the cool stuff you get, because FUN!
